ADSS fiber optic cable is an non-metallic cable and it does not require support or messenger wire. Mostly used on overhead power lines and/or poles and the self-supporting design allows installations independent of other wires/conductors. It is constructed with loose tubes which provide great mechanical properties under a wider range of conditions such as crush test and impact test, and are filled with water blocking gel.
But many customers ignore the voltage level parameter when choosing ADSS cable. When ADSS cable was first put into use, my country was still in the undeveloped stage for ultra-high voltage and ultra-high voltage fields. The voltage level commonly used for conventional distribution lines was also stable in the range of 35KV to 110KV. The polyethylene(PE) sheath of ADSS cable was enough to play a certain protective role.
However, in recent years, my country's requirements for power transmission distance have been greatly improved, and the corresponding voltage level has also been improved a lot. Distribution lines above 110KV have become a common choice for design units, which puts higher requirements on the performance (anti-electric tracking) of ADSS cable. As a result, AT sheath (anti-electric tracking sheath) has been officially widely used.
The use environment of ADSS cable is very harsh and complex. First of all, it is laid on the same tower as the high-voltage line and runs near the high-voltage transmission line for a long time. There is a strong electric field around it, which makes the outer sheath of ADSS cable very easy to be damaged by electrocorrosion. Therefore, in general, when customers understand the price of ADSS optical cables, we will ask about the voltage level of the line in order to recommend the most suitable ADSS optical cable specifications.
Of course, the performance requirements of AT sheath (anti-electric tracking) also make its price slightly higher than PE sheath (polyethylene), which also leads some customers to consider the cost and think that it is OK as long as it can be installed normally, and will not consider the impact of voltage level more.
